———————————————————————————————————————————
This program began in June, 2007, offering an evening “Expert Forum” hour related to a variety of coaching topics.  These forums are for your professional development and a way to add value to your UTD Executive Coaching Program experience.  Each session is led by an individual with expertise in coaching and/or business and will include speakers from both inside and outside of the UTD Coaching Program. Each session has had strong attendance and positive feedback.

Attendance at the Expert Forum is optional but it will help students for whom meeting the ICF requirement for real-time attendance is a challenge because of their travel schedules, geography/time zones, or work responsibilities.  It will also provide educational enrichment to our UTD Coaching Program students. No prep or homework will be necessary.

Each hour is a stand-alone, so students can choose to attend as many as they wish, based on their needs.  We invite all cohorts (including graduates) to participate, adding the benefit of cross-cohort communication.  We’ll publicize the leader and the topic or approach in advance.  Attendance will be taken for documentation of required real-time hours (also used for renewing/upgrading credentials)

Important note: This program does not replace the normal UTD requirements for the satisfactory completion of the coaching program.

We think this is a unique and attractive addition to our program, and we encourage you to participate.

Cheers!
Judy

Social media is a topic that no business owner or marketing professional can afford to ignore!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Social media is a topic that no business owner or marketing professional can afford to ignore. Just about everyone knows what social media is, and that their company should be using it. While no one will tell you to replace all of your traditional marketing efforts with social media marketing, it has become fairly clear that social media should factor into your overall marketing plan in some way.

Why?

HubSpot, an inbound marketing company in Boston, recently surveyed 1,500 consumers and found that:

  • Sixty-seven percent are more likely to purchase products from brands they follow on Twitter.
  • Fifty-one percent are more likely to purchase products from brands they follow on Facebook.
  • Sixty percent are more likely to recommend a brand once they become a fan of it on Facebook.
  • Seventy-nine percent are more likely to recommend a brand once they become a follower of it on Twitter.

A recent Rice University study showed that fans of its test brand, a popular Houston-based bakery and café chain, made 36 percent more visits to the brick and mortar stores than non-fans. Hitwise, a Web analytics firm announced on March 13 that Facebook surpassed Google to become the most visited Web site in the U.S.

Now that we know why social media marketing is important, we also need to know how to do it right. Many of the common mistakes being made by companies new to social media include:

  • Jumping right in without a plan.
  • Not listening to what their audience wants.
  • Forgetting about their brand.
  • Using the same strategy on every site.
  • Abuse of self-promotion or spamming.
  • Starting, stopping, starting, stopping.
  • Not measuring results or reach.

How can you make sure that your company is using the power of social media correctly?

First, companies must designate someone to manage the social media marketing efforts. Secondly, that person (or persons) needs to be trained on how to integrate social media into their marketing plan. While social media marketing may come naturally to some, we find that many struggle with getting started and keeping up the momentum. Getting trained by a professional who is experienced in creating successful social media marketing plans can help those that are new to get over these common hurdles.

It really amazes me that in the last 4 years, the blogosphere has really exploded. And we have been evangelists, spreading the word about this medium and on using the Internet to reach new customers and bring new eyes to you and your business. And yet every week, I run into people who still don’t get it. If you have only a website today, that’s like having a billboard out in a cornfield on a dirt road. Wouldn’t you rather have your billboard on a busy freeway where thousands and thousands of people can see it???

BLOG is an ugly word for many people – and it is misunderstood and underutilized! They started out as boring junky journals. A place for people to vent, share their thoughts, whatever. They have now become robust online magazines! The top bloggers in the world figured out the more they post, the faster their audience grew. ALEXA a respected authority in the WEB industry, the top 100 “websites” are not websites at all.

Websites are not websites anymore.

When a brand manager sits down to evaluate what she or he is doing online and in the mobile channels, the first realization they have is usually it’s not up to snuff with the massive amount of online usage that consumers are engaged in. And, more often than not, they must also grapple with what their peers and competitors are doing in these spaces as well.

News flash: yes you are a publisher. And, if you’re not, you better start being one. Don’t be surprised if terms like “ROI” and “CPM” suddenly become replaced with terms like “engagement” and “customer reviews.” Communities are created around this content, and those communities are expecting an engaging back-and-forth type of conversation or communication. That can’t happen with a static website.

Join us at the Compliments International training studio for a powerful session on the new social media marketing platforms…. Blogging. How, What, Why, Where and When! Join Jennifer Bagley, CEO of Compliments International, LLC. a digital marketing agency!
